Department of Transportation

Lakewood, CO

OZ Architecture was commissioned to program and design a new three-building campus for the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) in Lakewood, Colorado. The project includes a 130,000 square-foot office building for 380 people and brings together ten divisions of DOT to create a more secure and efficient working environment. A 390-space parking structure, a 19,000 square-foot warehouse, and space for future development are also included on this 13-acre site. An innovative project delivery method afforded DOT control over the design of the campus, while establishing a firm lease rate early in the design process. High ceilings, sun shades, light shelves, and high-performance glazing are employed to create a comfortable, productive, and LEED-certified energy efficient environment, while taking advantage of striking views of downtown Denver.
