Colorado Springs, AK

OZ Architecture completed over 40 projects related to the upgrade of existing facilities at the U. S. Air Force Academy. The projects include a wide range of planning, architectural design, mechanical/electrical/structural engineering, and interior design. The Fairchild Hall Academic Complex upgrade consisted of a two-phase project that renovated the primary academic building at the Academy. Extensive programming was completed by the design team in preparation for the renovation design. The Fairchild Hall and Utilization (U2) Study project was a highly ambitious planning project that included phases for an inventory, academic program plan, academic facilities plan, design for a 139,000 square-foot laboratory addition (by others), and phase one project description for modernization of Fairchild Hall. The final output was, in both graphic and database form, an Academic Facilities Master Plan which included the $39 million dollar CETF addition and the $65 million dollar Academic Facilities Modernization within Fairchild Hall. The Vandenberg Hall Dormitory Remodeling project consisted of the 1960s international-style dormitory being remodeled to meet the current building and life safety codes, and to provide updated materials, finishes, and amenities more compatible to the cadet lifestyle. A six-phased schedule allowed all 3000 cadets to remain in the dormitory during construction. The Cadet Wing at Fairchild Hall project included complete remodeling of three floors, including HVAC, classrooms, class Labs, and offices. OZ performed Title I/II Services. For the Richter Lounge at Arnold Hall project, OZ reconfigured Arnie's Cafeteria to create a more efficient "scramble" service arrangement for the food line and increase the lounge capacity for high volume periods.
