Bear Creek Apartments at Williams Village
Boulder, COThe primary design objectives for the six-building Bear Creek Apartments was to provide housing for 1900 students on an existing satellite campus and to provide a sense of community that bridges the architecture of the existing modernist towers with that of the Tuscan-style main campus. OZ utilized the materials of the existing towers (brick), while emulating the massing and detailing of the main campus in a more contemporary manner. To relieve the mass, the two buildings rise up to six stories at the center, stepping down to three stories at the ends of the wings. Stone accents reinforce entry points and enliven the fa?ade, while the wings form courtyards that provide outdoor gathering places and encourage pedestrian use. The architecture and site structure are inextricably linked, so that spaces formed by the buildings are positive and inviting. Taken together, the architecture and landscape form a memorable living environment for the residents.
