Lory Student Center at Colorado State Univ.

Fort Collins, CO

The Lory Student Center represents the hub of the student dining experience on the Colorado State University campus. OZ's challenge was to create a livelier, more engaging and more up-to-date image for the center, while staying within a closely-defined budget and schedule. When the project was completed in December of 2003, the total square footage equalled 18,500 and the project cost totaled $1.9 million. The existing facility was dark and outdated, with a food service facility that needed to be remodeled to include five franchises instead of the existing scramble system. The client also wanted to integrate the greenhouse at the far end with the main dining areas in the interior of the facility. The dining areas were designed to offer a variety of creative options and environments within the space. A fireplace was added to bring in warmth and a feeling of hospitality. Fresh colors and patterns were added to further enliven the atmosphere. Special consideration was given to traffic flow, queuing and circulation throughout.
